One of the most common questions we get from international visitors is: when is the best time to visit Guarujá? The honest answer is: it depends on what you're looking for. Guarujá is beautiful year-round, but each season offers a different experience — from the vibrant energy of the Brazilian summer to the peaceful off-season calm of winter.
This guide breaks down what to expect month by month so you can find the window that best suits your travel style and budget.
Quick Overview: Guarujá Seasons
Brazil's seasons are the reverse of the Northern Hemisphere:
- Summer: December to March — hot, humid, lively
- Autumn: April to June — warm, less crowded, excellent conditions
- Winter: July to September — mild, quieter, best value
- Spring: October to November — warming up, pre-peak conditions
Month-by-Month Breakdown
January & February: Peak summer. Average temperatures reach 28–32°C. The beaches are alive with Brazilian families on holiday, and the city buzzes with energy. Expect higher prices and earlier check-ins. Book accommodation weeks in advance. February is Carnival month — if you're visiting during this period, expect festive street parties and a uniquely Brazilian atmosphere.
March: Still summer, but crowds begin to thin after Carnival. Water temperatures are at their warmest (around 26°C). March can have occasional afternoon rain showers — brief, tropical, and refreshing.
April: One of our favorite months. The summer heat eases to a comfortable 24–27°C, the school holidays are over, and the beaches are peaceful. Water remains warm and clear. Prices drop noticeably compared to January.
May: Autumn begins in earnest. Cooler evenings, warm afternoons, and almost no crowds. This is an excellent window for couples, honeymooners, and travelers who value tranquility over social energy.
June: Guarujá in winter is mild by any standard — temperatures average 18–23°C during the day. The sea remains swimmable for those who don't mind cooler water. Accommodation prices are at their lowest and the beaches have a contemplative, locals-only feel. Surfing picks up as winter swells arrive on the exposed beaches.
July: Brazilian school winter break means a burst of domestic tourism. Families return to the coast for a week or two, and prices spike briefly. Outside of the holiday week, July is otherwise quiet and affordable.
August: One of the most underrated months to visit. Calm seas, clear skies, cool but comfortable temperatures, and virtually no tourist crowds. Snorkeling and diving conditions are excellent. Many of our guests who come in August return the following year specifically for this window.
September: Spring begins. Days grow warmer, the ocean starts to pick up temperature, and the whole island seems to come alive again. A wonderful transitional month — not yet crowded but energetically on the rise.
October: Spring in full swing. Temperatures hover around 23–26°C. The sea is warming up and conditions for swimming and snorkeling are excellent. Still off-peak prices. This is arguably the best overall value month for a Guarujá visit.
November: The last calm month before peak season. Weather is warm and frequently sunny. A great time to visit if you want summer-like conditions without summer-like crowds. The closer you get to December, the busier it becomes.
December: Early December is still relatively calm. From the 20th onward, the city enters full peak season mode as São Paulo families descend for the Christmas and New Year period. Praia de Pernambuco and the surrounding restaurants fill up quickly. The atmosphere is festive and joyful — especially around New Year's Eve, which is celebrated along the waterfront with fireworks.
Our Recommendation
For the best combination of good weather, manageable crowds, and reasonable prices, we recommend visiting in April–May or September–October. These shoulder seasons give you warm temperatures, clean water, and a genuinely relaxed experience of what Guarujá is really like when it's not at its busiest.
For travelers who want the full festive Brazilian beach experience, January is unbeatable — just be prepared to book early and embrace the energy.
